SIMONE SMELT

STUDIO

Fascinated by aesthetics and human imagination, Simone Smelt combines dark and endless imaginative concepts with minimal aesthetics. She often creates a visual poetic concept, followed up by playing with materials and colors to unveil the richness of the concept. Simone focusses on dynamic and transformable objects, to create a sustainable solution to boredom; dynamic design can be an ever surprising journey.

SHATTERED

Expositie ‘Future Mythologies’ –  2018

Lilith (Hebrew: לית†לי†Lִîlîṯ) is a figure in Jewish mythology, developed earliest in the Babylonian Talmud (3rd to 5th centuries). Lilith appears as Adam’s first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same dirt as Adam.

Lilith left Adam after she refused to become subservient to him and then would not return to the Garden of Eden after she had coupled with the archangel Samael. Lilith is often envisioned as a dangerous demon of the night, who is sexually wanton. Inspired by Lilith’s legacy,

Simone Smelt created a series of mirrors reflecting and distorting light and it’s surroundings. The light is reflected into different angels, creating a shattered image, which gives a mysterious and unblemished atmosphere. The mirrors are made with polished aluminium bent to create a column of mirrors.
