JASPER LUIJTEN

STUDIO

Wether it’s wind or daylight, natural motion formed by the elements often serves as a starting or inspiration source in Jasper’s clear, graphical and atmospheric approach. He aims to find the know / un-known essence in everyday products and their surroundings.

This results in an interdisciplinary working method leading a research for newapproaches to shape and function. Jasper translates his concepts into product, installations and spatial design projects.

Where he plays with his idea to rethink processes in there sophisticated matter by  reshaping them into a visual language of meaningful, functional yet poetic objects.

01. FUTURE FOSSILS
FUTURE FOSSILS

Expositie ‘Future Mythologies’ –  2018

Ancient times bring us two types of fossils, the immaterial and material. like in Greek mythology, myths have raised awareness and explained the origins of the world, their gods and natural phenomena such as the primal elements, earth, water, fire and air. These stories can be seen as organic fossils formed by time and man. Their tools and products on the other hand, give us a more practical understanding of how our ancestors lived and behaved.

One smoker dumps about 3000 cigarette butts in nature each year. One person produces 1.75 kg plastic waste per month, of which 1,00 kg is not-separated.One household counts an average of 93 electrical appliances, 10 | 15% of cable-guided energy is wasted. Today, topical subjects are explained by facts and statistics. In this project, the statistics are the immaterial and the subject the material.

By researching the qualities of these “Future fossils”,  Jasper playfully reflects on the current status by creating metaphoric objects based upon these statistics. To be used in home atmosphere, where a difference can be made and the discussion must be conducted
